Job Description:
This professional position has responsibility for providing appropriate legal advice and support to the Caribbean Islands financial services administration as it relates to a wide range of financial services and regulatory matters. Additionally, the job holder must provide leadership and supervision of legal officers junior to the position and provide accurate interpretation and applications of all legislation which the commission is required to administer and other relevant legislations. The successful candidate will be located at our clients offices; however, the successful candidate may be required to work from our clients island office, as required. The successful candidate may be required to undertake international travels for work and/ training.
Qualifications & Experience:
This position requires that the job holder possess:
☆ A Bachelor of Law or its equivalent,
☆ A Legal Profession Certificate or its equivalent, and
☆ At least seven years post qualification experience/ on the job experience to acquire the necessary competencies to effectively respond to the challenges of functions
Post Qualification Experience should include:
☆ Drafting of contracts, policies and memoranda of understanding.
☆ Drafting of legislation and instructions to Government Agencies
☆ Management and supervision of junior Legal Officer(s) and administrative staff
☆ Interoperating commercial and financial services legislation
Knowledge & Skills:
The job holder should at a minimum be able to demonstrate the following:
☆ Knowledge of legal practices and procedures.

☆ Ability to work independently and under pressure, to manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities, and to deal with changing priorities.
☆ Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
☆ Ability to utilise Justis, Lexis Nexis, Thomas Reuters, or another comparable legal research platform.
☆ Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects and initiatives.
☆ Excellent research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
☆ Ability to utilise Microsoft Office Suite products.
Reports To: Legal Chief as necessary to keep informed and monitor effectiveness of the Department's legal work programme.

Key Responsibilities:
☆ Legal Duties and Responsibilities:
☆Provide general legal advice on matters relevant to and affecting the Commission.
☆ Conduct research, prepare analysis, consult with stakeholders and draft the recommended policy or recommendations
☆ Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, leases, licenses and Memoranda of Understanding, and other legal documents.
☆ Provide advice on, and assist in the preparation of, policies, procedures and guidance notes.
☆ Advise and represent our client in civil proceedings and proceedings before the Courts and Tribunals.
☆ Assist other departments in handling compliance matters and issues relating to the supervision of licensees as instructed by the Commission.
☆ Institute and assist with the conduct of enforcement actions, including the drafting of such Orders and Notices, as may be required.
☆Provide drafting instructions for amending relevant legislation and for the implementation of new initiatives, procedures and guidance notes, as may be required.
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities:
☆ Provide leadership and supervisory support to relevant junior officer(s)
☆ Develop, monitor, supervise and evaluate the work assigned junior officer(s)
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
☆ Provide appropriate, accurate and timely reports of workflows to the Director
☆ Co-ordinate and execute requests for assistance from foreign and domestic regulatory authorities.
☆Assist with the preparation and conduct of industry education and information events
☆ Maintain the Commission's Enforcement, ☆Cooperation and Complaint's data bases.
☆ The successful candidate shall also be required to assist the legal chief with any duty (Legal, Supervisory or Administrative) as may be assigned from time to time.
